Papa’s “Wheels…”

Once upon a time I had Papa. He was a rosy-cheeked mild-tempered man, until you crossed him. Then he was stubborn and strong-willed.

Allow me to give you an example.

Papa went to collect rent, from the 2- family tenement, that we lived in that was our Brooklyn home… until we kids grew up and went off.

My folks had moved to another nearby area…

Both apartments were rent controlled, but my late elderly parents used these rents, to supplement their small income. This along with social security checks, helped support them, in their retirement. Since they owned the property for years it had no longer had a mortgage.

Papa parked his well-used, well -enjoyed 1954 Ford as usual, in front of his building to collect the rent. He was gone for only a short time. When he returned…his automobile was gone. POOF! 💨🚗

Need I say my old Papa was distraught. 😢 I can picture him fuming, 😠 in the empty space where his beloved car was formerly parked.

He called the police, 👮‍♂️👮‍♂️👮‍♂️they smirked at his report about his relic of a car being stolen. Thievery was the norm in their precinct, and the least of the crimes committed …so they basically just shrugged.

” Forget -about -it, Mister.” 🙄

But my Papa would not forget about his “Gussie” 🧡, as he called his appendage, the old car. 🚗

Well, the police would not search for “Gussie”, but he would! 🕵️‍♀Damn it!

He did not tell Mama because he knew she’d stop him from this dangerous, futile odyssey. She would worry…

………………………Papa did the police work……………………….

Would you believe Papa found his old friend the Ford named “Gussie” …a few days later. He had walked & walked until his loss was found.

Holy Brooklyn! 😮

Want a good laugh??? 🤣

One of Gussie’s head lights was out…when it was “taken”. Papa hadn’t had a chance (yet) to have changed it…when it blown out.

When examined his auto, he scratched his head and then chuckled. 😅

The crooks had fixed the headlights💡💡on his car…for him.

They evidently did not wish to get pulled over by the cops for a violation.

Papa got gratefully in “Gussie” 🚗 and drove home to tell Mama…👵😜

LOL!
