I woke up, (dare I say ‘woke’), with blood spot on my pure white cotton “Fruit of the Loom” bloomers.

Excited & scared…

I was twelve that year being 1953.

I ran to Mama, & whispered privately, “It happened”-it happened”!

She grabbed me, “Come into the other room, quickly and close the door, please”.

I obeyed while I pulled my pink, long Chenille robe tie tighter over my PJ’s.

Then she smacked me across my face. 🥵

Tears stung my face.

"Mama what did I do that you hit me…it wasn’t my fault…it came by itself”, I moaned.

“I smacked you, so you’ll not lose your rosy cheeks”.

HUH? 😥

“Sit down here Dee-Dee, I want to talk to you”.

Uh ho… I worried, what she going to do now? 😮

(Mama had never wanted to talk to me like this)! 😒

“Now you are a woman now… no more a little girl”. 🤔

Then in her old -fashion, unique way, she tried to explain how babies were made.

“A man’s seed has to meet with a woman’s egg that’s inside of her… and that makes a baby”.

I listened intently, then asked” But how the man get the seed inside the woman”?

The question made her lose her cool as she answered, “Well he doesn’t use his thumb”! 🙈🙉🙊

She promptly exited the room & left this naive 12-year-old me…puzzled! 😮

Mama dropped this bomb then dismissed me.

To this day, I still wonder…🤔🙄
