“Danger Lurked in the Dance…”

“Mambo” then… Pop-Goes the Weasel”

Strolling along up the hill, a sort of bridge over the East River Walkway… I was startled out of my reverie. 😮

A sewer’s ancient rusted heavy iron lid starts to heave in my path. It bangs loudly as crashes up, dances wildly, then slams with down terrible force.

I walked this path for 40 years now…but NEVER did I witness such a disturbing, curious rebellion of infrastructure.

‘Holy cement’!

It's true New York City is decaying right under our feet… (I say to myself), as I quickly put distance between myself and the Mambo dancing, heavy disc…that might take flight.

I ran a good block or so then I bumped into woman speed- walking on the walkway.

We turned to each other “Did you see & hear that thing going crazy”?

I nod, “Y-yes”. as she has moved along beside me.

“Was that the first time you ever saw that”?

Again, I shake my head “Y- yes”.

Then I say," Do you think somebody is stuck & was trying to get out”?

“Maybe some criminal got himself stuck in that sewer”. 😱

“What if we disturb him and he shoots us”?

…We kept pace as we continued fast walking and spun different tales about the friggin’ iron cover until… it blew a geyser of The East River. 🙃😮🙄
